About Summer Research Computing Workshops

Built on Software Carpentry workshops on selected topics, the goal of the summer research computing workshops is two fold. First, it is aimed to provide participants with an opportunity to acquire and refresh knowledge and techniques essential to their research that involves computational and data processing tasks. Secondly it is hoped that the workshops will provide a natural opportunity for interaction and for the development of connections within the diverse Western research community.

The targeted audience is senior undergraduate students, graduate students and researchers who have an existing background in scientific computing, but would like to learn more or update their knowledge and skills in computer programming.

Prerequisites for the workshops vary depending on the sessions you choose. All workshops are hands-on oriented. The attendees are required to bring their own laptop to the classroom. We generally expect the attendees to have a basic familiarity with the Linux shell, which itself will be part of the workshops, and we require a certain level of programming experience.

The workshops are free, but registration is required to secure a seat.
